Hi, students, judges, and mentors!
Different from conventional hackathons, the 2021 HackOR team have decided to make our judging process and criteria open to not only the judges, but also all attendees of hackathon.
We want this experience to be as transparent and open to students as possible, and part of it is making it clear what criteria we will be looking for in projects.
To Students...
Note that all hackors are free to make whatever technical project they would like, regardless of its alignment to our criteria. This document simply exists to level the playing field for those who may be inexperienced in how hackathons work and how projects will be judged.
To Judges...
Judges, please use this document as reference for the hackathon judging and how it works. As the hackathon competition approaches, we will also have more detailed instructions on how to deliver your judges/ratings of projects.

Judging Schedule Breakdown
2PM: Hacking Ends
- Note that you are NOT allowed to submit code or change your Devpost submission afterwards. Any changes made on the submission beyond 2PM will not be reviewed by the judges, and all forms of cheating will disqualify your project from winning any/all of the hackathon prizes.
- Students need to submit their project before 2PM via our Devpost platform (hackor.devpost.com). These projects will be sent to our hackathon judges and sponsor judges, who will be reviewing them based on categories.
- All projects submitted to Devpost must have the following:
- Pitch video: <2 minute in length
- Description on your HackOR project
- GitHub Link (must be public)
- (Optional) Demo Link for deployed projects
2-5PM Official Judging Period
- HackOR Judges: Once judges receive the list of projects they are reviewing, they will look over them and rate them based on a rubric.
- After each project is reviewed, the project name and rubric scores will be sent to the HackOR team to be totaled and a winner will be chosen, as well as runner-up(s).
- Sponsored Judges: Sponsors judge will be reviewing and choose their category winners independently through a method of their choice. Sponsors either send one judge to review the project and make the decision, or have their team look over and decide.
